PES 2008 updates the clubs and players for the 2007/2008 season, this time also including some clubs never featured before. The gameplay has been updated so that goalkeepers aren't able to catch every ball easily. Players stumble over each other, slip and try to keep their balance. They can simulate fouls and hope not to get caught by the referee, and so on.

This time, the English league has imaginary emblems for unlicensed clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and others. Some other clubs still have the correct insignia. However, their player names and statistics are correct. The same doesn't apply to a large part of the national selection, which has players with correct statistics but shortened names and generalised faces.
