The Dagger of Xian is a legendary weapon with which Chinese emperors commanded their armies. It is said that a person can turn into a dragon if they pierce their own heart with this dagger. When one of the emperors used it for this purpose, Tibetan monks managed to pull the dagger from his heart and return it to its place on the Great Wall. As archaeologist Lara Croft pursues the legend, she discovers that a powerful Venetian criminal is hunting for the dagger and must do everything in her power to prevent him from obtaining it.Tomb Raider II is an action game with jump'n'run and puzzle elements that resembles its predecessor in concept and gameplay. Most of the game consists of traversing dangerous 3D levels while utilising Lara's athletic abilities and solving environmental puzzles. The sequel places greater emphasis on combat against enemies, with many human opponents added. Additional weapons include a harpoon gun, a grenade launcher and an M16 rifle. Automatic pistols replace the Magnums from the first game. There are two vehicles that the player can drive in the game: a motorboat in Venice and a snow scooter in Tibet. Lara can now climb ladders and perform a mid-air roll to land in the opposite direction. The sequel also allows the player to save the game anywhere.

Soon betrayed by her employer, Lara Croft travels to Greece, Rome and Egypt to recover the other parts before this powerful device falls into the wrong hands.Tomb Raider is a 3D action game with platforming and puzzle elements, in which players control Lara Croft from a third-person perspective. Progressing through levels often involves finding places where Lara can climb, looking for spots where Lara can use her acrobatic skills, and moving blocks and pulling levers to solve puzzles and open passages.Lara is armed with twin pistols with unlimited ammunition, but can also acquire higher-calibre weapons to take on deadlier human enemies. Lara also comes across strengthening health packs and has a compass to help her find her way. Lara's enemies include animals, armed men, as well as prehistoric and supernatural creatures. The PlayStation port of Command & Conquer has the same gameplay and plot as the DOS original, with an adjusted sidebar similar to that of the SEGA Saturn port. Exclusive to this version are six Special Operations missions (three for the GDI, two for Nod, one hidden), which differ from the missions of the same name in the later Nintendo 64 port. With a code, the missions from the Covert Operations expansion pack for the DOS original are also accessible.

In 007: Tomorrow Never Dies, based on the film of the same name, the player takes on the role of the famous James Bond, who fights against Elliot Carver. Carver is trying to boost his TV ratings by starting a war between the British and the Chinese. To achieve his goal, he uses his stealth ship to sink a British vessel and makes it look as though the Chinese air force was responsible. It's now up to Bond to set things right ...Most of the ten levels resemble traditional third-person shooters, in which the player moves through the levels while eliminating numerous enemies. While there is a free-aim option, most enemies can be dealt with using the auto-lock feature. This means that if the player gets close enough to an enemy with a suitable weapon, the game automatically fires on them as long as the player is looking in the general direction. Bond also has gadgets that are used to complete mission objectives. There are two missions that deviate from this formula: in the driving sequence, the player chases and shoots at enemy cars while dodging obstacles; in the skiing sequence, the main focus is on taking out other skiers who are trying to throw him off balance.

The intrepid archaeologist Lara Croft travels to India in search of a legendary stone that once belonged to the Infada tribe. Shortly after recovering the gem, she meets Dr Willard, the head of an organisation called RX Tech. Willard is interested in an ancient Polynesian city built by people of a now-vanished civilisation who worshipped a mysterious meteorite that struck Earth millions of years ago. Willard tells Lara that the Infada Stone is in fact one of four artefacts that the ancient Polynesians crafted from the material found at the meteorite’s core. Willard suggests that Lara search for the other three, scattered and hidden across various regions of the planet. It looks like another dangerous adventure awaits the fearless “tomb raider”!Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft is an action game with platforming and puzzle elements. The gameplay system is similar to that implemented in the previous game. Lara’s abilities include running, jumping, climbing, swimming, rolling, crouching, crawling, sprinting, and swinging on poles and vines. This instalment adds several new types of hazards, including cold water, in which Lara can only swim for a limited time, dangerous underwater creatures (such as piranhas), and treacherous quicksand, which swallows the heroine if the player isn’t careful and quick enough to stop her falling in.As in the previous game, Lara uses pistols, shotguns, harpoon guns, Uzis and grenade launchers to defend herself. New weapons include the Desert Eagle, the MP5 submachine gun and the rocket launcher. Some levels are designed so that stealth is the preferred solution, rather than engaging enemies directly in combat. Unlike the previous games, the player can tackle the levels in any order, following on from the introductory India scenario. The player can save the game at any time in both the PC and PlayStation versions; in the latter case, however, the number of saved games depends on the amount of Save Crystals Lara has collected during her journey.

Stealth Patrol is the first console adaptation of the long-running PC military series Spec Ops. Players command two Rangers on various missions. Instead of working with a full squad as in the PC versions, only two Rangers can be controlled. This can be done by two human players working together. If there is only one player, the computer AI takes over the second Ranger, but the player can switch between them at any time. Another difference in this console adaptation is the change of gameplay perspective from first-person to third-person.Before starting a mission, players choose from five classes the Ranger best suited to achieving the objectives: machine gunner, grenadier, rifleman, close-combat specialist or sniper. Each class has different abilities and access to specific weapons or items. Each type also has a certain amount of carrying capacity, but the loadout can be further customised depending on the available options. Included weapons include shotguns, grenades, tripwire mines, machine guns and sniper rifles, as well as more general items such as night-vision goggles. The missions take place in a forest in Siberia, snow-covered mountains in Bosnia, the desert in Iraq, mountains in North Korea and the jungle in Vietnam. The radar is an important element throughout the game. When a Ranger is fired upon, the enemy's position briefly flashes as a red dot on the radar. Killed enemies often drop medkits and additional items such as ammunition.

The turn of the millennium in the NHL series brought, as usual, updated rosters, which for the first time included the Atlanta Thrashers, as well as improved graphics and sound. The two main features of the game are the new Dynasty mode, which allows a player to lead a team to success over 10 consecutive seasons while keeping an eye on new talent at the annual drafts and trades with other teams, and the face import feature, which lets you assign your own face to any custom player using a photo. To do this, a photo must be placed in a folder, imported, and then hotspots (head shape, eyes, nose and mouth) must be set to determine how the texture is mapped onto the facial model. The gameplay became much faster and tougher, and two new moves were added: the "Big Hit", to flatten the opponents' golden boy, and the "Special Movement", to effortlessly get past those tough defenders. Other new features include individual player and goalie boosts (to create a handicap for a team) as well as jersey selection, including classic throwback jerseys.

Covert Assault, another instalment in the Spec Ops series, offers action for one or two players controlling US Army Rangers in third-person missions and combat across four different locations. Two-player mode offers cooperative split-screen play. The focus is on tactical gameplay, although there's plenty of action.

Abe is a Mudokon, a member of a once-prosperous race that has now been enslaved by the Glukkons and forced to work in their vast corporations. The food factories have discovered a new type of meat that everyone loves, although no one knows the recipe. Following his stomach, Abe eavesdrops on the corporate executives' conversations and makes the most horrifying and disgusting discovery: his own race is this secret, delicious food.Unfortunately, Abe is discovered and the guards march towards him. He has to flee, but he can't leave his friends to the mercy of the Glukkons and their henchmen. He must save as many as he can and tell the world the truth about what he's discovered.Abe's Oddysee is the first game set in the fictional Oddworld universe. It's a platformer with puzzle-solving elements that focuses on portraying a weak, feeble character in a bleak and hostile world, who must rely on his cunning to outwit enemies and overcome dangers. Abe is almost completely helpless: he can't use weapons and is usually killed instantly by his brutal enemies if he confronts them directly. For this reason, most of the game consists of careful exploration, precisely timed movements, sneaking around and outsmarting enemies through various means: throwing rocks to distract them, luring them into traps, and so on. Abe can run, jump, climb, tiptoe, crouch and roll; in most areas, these actions are essential for his survival. In some stages, Abe rides a large creature called an Elum.Abe's only special ability is singing, which he can use to stun certain enemies for a while or possess them. When Abe possesses an enemy, he gains its abilities: for example, if the player possesses the body of a wild Slig, they can fire its machine gun, communicate with other creatures of its kind, and even commit suicide, clearing the way for Abe.Singing is also used to open "bird portals". This is the final action required to bring another Mudokon to safety. Before that, Abe must locate his enslaved friends and lead them out of the hostile environment using a communication method called "GameSpeak". GameSpeak is a form of verbal communication using simple commands mapped to various phrases, such as "Hello", "Follow me", "Wait here" and so on. It can also be used to remember passwords given to Abe by other Mudokons in certain areas. Many areas where Abe can rescue Mudokons are hidden and not required to complete the game. However, the game's ending depends on the number of Mudokons the player has saved. The game features pre-rendered background graphics and uses CG movies in a similar style to advance the story between levels.

Admiral Razorbeard and his gang of robot pirates have enslaved all the creatures in Rayman’s world, including the peaceful Teensies and the Lums, who breathe life into the earth. Rayman has also been captured by the pirates and is bemoaning his troubles in his prison cell when he runs into his good friend Globox. Globox has smuggled in a silver Lum, given to him by the great fairy Ly. With the power of the silver Lum, Rayman is once again able to fire his fists. With his powers restored, the pair escape the flying prison ship and set off on another adventure to save the entire world!Rayman 2: The Great Escape is the sequel to Rayman, a 2D side-scrolling platformer. Unlike its predecessor, Rayman 2 takes place entirely in freely navigable 3D environments, similar to Super Mario 64. Rayman has many unique abilities that can help him travel the world. Not only can he fire his fists, but he can also hover with his hair like a helicopter, and in certain spots even glide on air currents. He can climb certain walls and ceilings, and even swing with his fists from special purple Lums shaped like rings. Rayman also has many unique items, such as powder kegs that can be carried or flown like jets, strange legged warheads that he can ride and steer like jittery mules, and giant plums that can be thrown into water to create new paths.Rayman’s goal is to find the world’s four masks, which allow their bearer to awaken Polokus, the spirit of the world. These masks are scattered far and wide, and well hidden and guarded, so it’s no easy task. By collecting yellow Lums, Rayman gains access to new worlds that lead him to the locations of new masks. Collecting yellow Lums also rewards him with new powers and an extended health bar.The Nintendo 64 and Windows platforms are the original versions of the game. The Nintendo DS version comes closest to this version. The Dreamcast version adds a new area to the original version called Globox Village, which includes exclusive mini-games. The mini-games are unlocked by collecting six hidden Globox crystals. Other changes include the Hall of Doors being turned into a new location called "the Island of Doors", with more robo-pirates to fight, including a new type not seen in the original version. The iOS and Nintendo 3DS versions are based on this version, but don’t include the Globox Village area. However, the 3DS version features a dynamic difficulty curve, with the game becoming easier if too many Lums are missed. The PlayStation version features a significant overhaul of the levels, with some merged and others removed entirely, although there are also some new areas. This includes a new unlockable bonus area taken from the originally planned 2D version of the game, which was ultimately scrapped. The number of collectible Lums was reduced from 1,000 to 800. In this version, the characters are also voiced in real languages, rather than in a whispering tone as in the other versions. The PlayStation 2 version adds mini-games and exclusive items such as the Lumz radar, and gives Rayman more options for purchasing and using items. In addition to some expanded level reworks, where Lums are placed in different locations, there are three new bosses to contend with. The Hall of Doors has become a central hub, along with the Minisaurus Plain, Globox’s house and the Rainbow Tributary. Bonus challenges can also be played by freeing imprisoned familiar spirits. These captives are exclusive to this version of the game. The game also offers the option to use either the voice acting in the original language or the style of the older version, and lets players save mid-level.
