Alpine Racer 3 - PS2 - DE

Alpine Racer 3 is a downhill skiing racing game. It is based on the arcade series Alpine Racer, which is played on a cabinet where the player stands on a pair of ski-like foot rests that are moved with horizontal motions to steer and take corners, while holding onto two poles for stability. This is the first game in the series to be developed for a console system. The features and game modes are most likely not identical to those of the arcade game Alpine Racer 3. For the first time in the series, skiing is combined with snowboarding, as was previously the case in the arcade game Alpine Surfer.

The main game mode is the Extreme Winners Cup, which includes cross races, slalom, single races and time trials. These mainly serve to qualify for the tournaments. There are eight characters to choose from (one is initially locked) and several tracks. Each character has different stats based on speed, agility and power. Winning races earns credits, which can be used to upgrade the snowboard and ski equipment. In addition to steering, there is an extra button that lets you crouch down to gain extra speed, though this limits movement. The same button is used in the air to perform tricks. The game can be played competitively against another player via split screen. Some of the equipment in the game comes from licensed manufacturers.
