Totally Rad - NES - EN

Totally Rad is an action game in which you play Jake, an aspiring magician who is trained by master magician Zebediah. One day, while training, Jake is attacked by unknown enemies who kidnap his girlfriend Allison. Then Jake must rescue her and find out what is behind the attack. This game is a side-scrolling game with basic controls common to many games in this category: movement, jumping and shooting. Your main weapon is a kind of energy ball that can be charged by holding down the button for a few seconds until it reaches maximum power. Although Jake is supposedly still learning his magic from Zebediah, you can use all of his magical powers from the start. You can choose which magic to use from a list that is displayed when you press the start button. Available magical powers include healing, time stop, invincibility, the power of the elements (fire, water, wind and earth) and 3 different transformation types. You can transform into a flying guy who throws something like a boomerang (that doesn't come back), into a fish-like guy who throws something like ninja stars and can swim, and into a cat-like guy who shoots electric shocks from his hands and becomes invincible when jumping. You do not develop further in the course of the game, as your health and magic bar do not grow. Totally Rad is, as the name suggests, a game full of slang, with the constant use of words such as totally, gnarly, dude, excellent, decent, righteous, etc.
