Publisher: Marvel Comics
Year: September 1974
Condition: Fine Minus, FN-, 5.5
Sub-Mariner #72 with an exciting story from the Bronze Age of comics. This is the final issue of the series; the comic is in used condition.
The character of Sub-Mariner was created by Bill Everett and first appeared in Marvel Comics #1 in October 1939. Together with Captain America and the Human Torch, he was one of the three superheroes who appeared at the then Timely Comics (the forerunner of the Marvel Comics publishing house) and fought the Axis powers on the comic pages during the Second World War. He is a hybrid – half human, half Atlantean – and has the ability to breathe underwater. He became popular again when Jack Kirby and Stan Lee dusted him off in 1962 in Fantastic Four #4 and breathed new life into him during the Silver Age. After sharing the comic Tales to Astonish with Iron Man in the mid-1960s, he got his own title in 1968. Gene Colan and John Buscema defined the visual look of Sub-Mariner during the Silver Age of comics and gave him the characteristic appearance he is known for today.
