Description

Sub-Mariner #53

Comic: Sub-Mariner #53
Language: English
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Year: September 1972
Condition: Fine Plus, FN+, 6.5

Sub-Mariner #53 featuring an exciting story from the Bronze Age of comics, written and drawn by Sub-Mariner creator Bill Everett. The issue is in good used condition.

The character of Sub-Mariner was created by Bill Everett and first appeared in Marvel Comics #1 in October 1939. Together with Captain America and the Human Torch, he was one of the three superheroes who appeared at the then Timely Comics (the predecessor of the Marvel Comics publishing house) and fought against the Axis powers on comic pages during World War II. He is a hybrid – half human, half Atlantean – and has the ability to breathe underwater. He became popular again when Jack Kirby and Stan Lee brought him back out of mothballs in 1962 in Fantastic Four #4, breathing new life into him during the Silver Age. After sharing the comic Tales to Astonish with Iron Man in the mid-1960s, he got his own issue in 1968. Gene Colan and John Buscema visually defined Sub-Mariner in the Silver Age of comics and gave him his now-iconic look.
