Comic: Sub-Mariner #51Language: English
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Year: July 1972
Condition: Very Good/Fine, VG/FN, 5.0
Sub-Mariner #51 by Mike Friedrich (story) and Bill Everett (art), a classic from the early Bronze Age of comics. The issue is in a used condition.
The character Sub-Mariner was created by Bill Everett and first appeared in Marvel Comics #1 in October 1939. Together with Captain America and the Human Torch, he was one of the three superheroes who appeared at the then Timely Comics (the predecessor of the Marvel Comics publisher) and fought against the Axis powers in the comic pages during World War II. He is a hybrid – half human, half Atlantean – and has the ability to breathe underwater. He became popular again when Jack Kirby and Stan Lee brought him out of mothballs in 1962 in Fantastic Four #4 and gave him new life in the Silver Age. After sharing the comic Tales to Astonish with Iron Man in the mid-1960s, he got his own title in 1968. Gene Colan and John Buscema visually defined the Sub-Mariner in the Silver Age of comics, giving him his now well-known characteristic look.
