Ski-Doo Snowmobile Challenge is a snowmobile racing game and a sequel to the PlayStation 2 game Ski-Doo Snow X Racing. The game is similar to its predecessor, but features a larger number of tracks with 25 different events taking place in five different countries: Canada, Russia, Sweden, USA and Norway. There are four different types of events: Cross Country, Snowcross, Hill Cross and Freestyle.
As with other extreme sports games, performing tricks is a central part of the game. There are a total of sixteen different stunts that can be performed. When these are executed, the player's boost gauge fills up and when it is full, it is possible to use adrenaline to get a boost by putting the sled into overdrive mode. The player can then accelerate faster, take tighter turns and reach a higher top speed. Other tricks consist of leaning forward to reduce the turning radius of the sled, or leaning back to increase traction and acceleration.
The game offers a career mode as well as a single-player and multiplayer mode. In career mode, the player's goal is to become a professional snowmobile champion. Along the way, he gains access to new sleds and unlocks special abilities and new equipment. This includes upgrading the sled, painting it and attaching various decals. The player can also unlock various outfits for the driver. In single-player mode, the player can choose any driver and any track, but only the sleds that were unlocked in career mode are available.
The multiplayer mode includes a split-screen mode for two players. On Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, there is an online multiplayer mode for up to twelve players.
