Shadow Warriors II - NES - EN

A year after the events of the original Ninja Gaiden, a new villain named Ashtar learns of Jaquio's defeat. Ashtar seizes the opportunity and devises a new plan to plunge the world into darkness. Ninja Ryu Hayabusa sets out to destroy all manner of hideous creatures invading the world as he makes his way to eliminate Ashtar, his dark sword of chaos, and whatever else lurks behind the evil. Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos is a fast-paced, side-scrolling action game in the tradition of the original Ninja Gaiden game. Ryu is a ninja who can run, jump, and slash with his ninja sword. He can also cling to vertical walls and climb up and down, an ability lacking in the predecessor. Throughout the levels, power-ups are hidden everywhere. These power-ups include fireballs and ninja stars as before; a unique new power-up is the ninja shadow. Ryu can collect up to 2 ninja shadows that follow him everywhere and use the same weapons Ryu wields. Ninja Gaiden II tells its story through the generous use of cutscenes interspersed between the action levels. Various levels offer a variety of environmental interactions; in one level, for example, Ryu finds himself on a high mountain where it quickly snows and the wind blows hard. The changing direction of the snowfall indicates how the wind is blowing, and Ryu must battle against the breeze. In a night level, much of the environment is dark and only sporadically illuminated by lightning.
