Resident Evil 6 is a survival horror game that continues the fight against the series' typical bioterror zombies. Players can choose between three scenarios with multiple characters and interwoven storylines. In these scenarios, the paths of the stories and the plot intersect.

Unlike some earlier Resident Evil games, in which different scenarios had different characters going through the same plot and locations, in Resident Evil 6 each scenario has its own scenes, locations, weapons and unique enemy types. The three main scenarios involve Leon (the protagonist of Resident Evil 2 and 4), Chris (Resident Evil, Code Veronica and Resident Evil 5) and Jake (a new character in the series). Each of these scenarios is a two-player story, either in co-op mode or with a computer-controlled partner. Once all three scenarios have been completed, a bonus scenario becomes available in which it's possible to play through Ada Wong's story.

Other features include new enemies, upgradeable firepower and characters, vehicle-based sections, the minigame-based Mercenaries mode, and single-player and co-op play options.
