Description

Red Faction: Armageddon takes place 50 years after the events of Red Faction: Guerrilla, and is also set on Mars. The player takes on the role of Darius Mason, a well-meaning guy who just wants the best for his people. Unfortunately, it's not entirely his fault that a terrorist managed to destroy the machine that brings a life-sustaining atmosphere to the planet, forcing people to retreat underground, but he also accidentally frees a hostile alien race. Since the surviving humans aren't too pleased with his achievements, it's now time to head into the tunnels and make amends!

One major change from its predecessor is the absence of an open world; Armageddon is a linear third-person shooter. Most of the game consists of exactly that: running through levels and killing alien hordes or human cultists with a mix of conventional and sci-fi weapons. There are occasional boss fights and vehicle sections, such as in a mech. Levels contain valuable scrap pieces that can be traded in for character or weapon upgrades. What has been carried over from previous games is the destructible terrain, which can also be used to take out enemies. This, of course, means Darius could destroy his own way to the exit – but luckily he has a handy device that lets him repair his surroundings.

Alongside the campaign, there are two additional game modes. The point of Destruction mode is to score as many points as possible within a limited time. Destroying the environment earns points. The second mode is designed for co-op play with up to four players and essentially consists of fighting off enemy waves.
