Description
Prince of Persia once again resets the series' timeline, marking the start of a new trilogy with the Prince searching for Farah, his donkey, laden with unimaginable treasures. But after a sandstorm, he plunges into a chasm and meets Elika, a princess with magical powers. She is being hunted by her father's army and must make her way to the temple beneath the Tree of Life.
But they arrive too late. After a brief fight against her father, he breaks the seal and thus opens the prison chamber that had been held shut by the power of the Tree of Life. The inhabitant of this prison? Ahriman – God of Darkness. Creator of the darkness of space and the first to unleash envy and hatred. Back then, he wasn't content with keeping only half the universe, and after a bitter fight against his brother Ormazd, the God of Light, he nearly won. In one final attempt, Ormazd successfully lured Ahriman into the Tree of Life and sentenced him to a thousand years of agony. But Ahriman merely waited. Waiting and planning, and now that he is free, he and his minions begin to reclaim what they have lost, and the only two people in the world who can stop them are the Prince and Elika.
The core gameplay remains the same as in the previous trilogy, with the Prince engaging in sword fights, wall climbing, spike dodging, puzzle solving and more on his quest to save the world. However, unlike the previous trilogy, the Prince can neither turn back time nor does he have to fight multiple enemies at once. Instead, he and Elika face only a single, powerful enemy each time, and if the Prince dies due to a mistimed jump or similar, she uses her powers to reset the Prince to the start of the jumping puzzle. That's not the only thing she does. On the player's command, she also helps in combat, enabling further mid-air jumps with a small boost from behind and showing which way he should go next. Elika is also the key to restoring the Tree of Life to full strength. To do so, however, she needs so-called "Seeds of Life", scattered throughout the levels. Once the player has collected enough of them, Elika also grows stronger.
Aside from enemies being stronger and smarter and having more special abilities, combat plays out similarly to previous instalments in the series, with the Prince striking enemies with his sword or gauntlet to create powerful combos. The gauntlet also lets the Prince safely slide down from solid rocks into the area below. The game features quick-time events in which an enemy grabs hold of the Prince, and uses a cel-shaded, heavily stylised look for the characters.
