Perry unser Mann im All #84
Comic: Perry #84Language: German
Publisher: Moewig Comics
Year: 1972
Condition: 2-3 (Two to three) Good to fair
Perry #84 is a classic science fiction comic from the Moewig publishing house, based on the successful pulp novel series Perry Rhodan. The comic is in used condition.
The comic series Perry was published by Moewig between 1968 and 1975, running to a total of 129 issues. This science fiction comic was the publisher's own adaptation and, after Perry Rhodan im Bild (1967-1968), the second attempt to bring the famous pulp novel series to the comic medium. The series carried the breezy, reassuring subtitle Unser Mann im All (Our Man in Space) and soon developed into a garish, colourful pop-art comic that appealed more to young adults than to children. The artwork was produced by the Italian studio Giolitti, and most of the drawings were straightforward copies from a wide range of American comic books of the era. Panels from Marvel Comics in particular were shamelessly copied, above all those by John Buscema, whose artwork was repeatedly used as a reference. Nonetheless, the Perry series has its own very special charm, not least because it is a typical product of its time and, as such, still comes across today with a loving nostalgic feel. Most of the cover artwork was created by Moewig's in-house artist Johnny Bruck (1921-1995), who also shaped the visual style of the original Perry Rhodan pulp novel series. For sales-strategic reasons, the publisher evidently placed great importance on maintaining at least a visual consistency at the newsstand.
