Description
The introduction explains the title: the Order of the Stone is a legend of four heroes who once defeated the Ender Dragon. The game then returns to the present, where the character Jesse (either male or female) is the protagonist. Jesse's friends Olivia and Axel are introduced, along with Jesse's pet pig Reuben. Axel brings news of Endercon, where a building competition is taking place, the winner of which gets the chance to meet Gabriel, one of the heroes of the Order of the Stone. They build a giant Creeper, but a rival team known as the Ocelots tries to sabotage it, accidentally setting Reuben on fire in the process. The pig flees into the forest, and the friends set out to find him again. He has to fight mobs and is helped by Petra, who tells him about a withered skull from the Nether that she wants to trade for a diamond. Back at Endercon, the competition can be won or lost, and the trade for the diamond turns shady. Through a series of events, Jesse, Olivia, Axel and the new characters Lukas and Ivor travel through a portal into the Nether, from which there is no direct way back. With the help of a minecart, they eventually reach the Overworld, where they learn more about the history of the Order. At the end of the episode, Jesse has to decide which of the heroes to track down first, choosing between Axel or Olivia.
Throughout the story, there are various moments in which the characters are offered different options for actions or conversations. These are time-limited, and if none is chosen, the option “Silence” is automatically selected, which also counts as a decision. The choices are remembered by the characters, with a note for the player, and affect how they react in future. Unlike other Telltale titles, however, the tone is lighter and less mature, and many choices don't carry the strong emotional weight for which the developer's other games are known. There are many humorous moments and references to typical Minecraft elements. Alongside the cut-scene-style gameplay, there are also moments of free exploration. Jesse can then explore the surroundings freely, collect items in an inventory and solve small puzzles. There are quick-time events and also action sections in which he fights mobs with his sword in the forest and on a bridge. He can move between several lanes, strike with his sword and has a limited number of health points. There are also sections in which Jesse can craft a new sword and a bow and arrow by arranging various items according to a recipe, similar to how it's done in the original Minecraft. At the end of the episode, an overview of the choices is shown, compared with those of players worldwide.
