Fifa 12 - PS3

This version of FIFA 12 is designed for touch-based mobile devices. In addition to single matches, it offers four basic game modes: Leagues, Cups, Training Arena and Penalty Shootout. There are thirty leagues and twenty-one cups to compete in. In both leagues and cups, the player can choose whether to play the matches themselves or simulate them. There are some team management options. The player can select a formation and starting line-up, as well as kickers and team styles. Team styles include, for example, playing on the counter-attack, zonal marking and overlapping full-backs. The iOS version of the game also features a manager career mode, which is not available in the Android version. In addition to these game modes, there are also daily challenges, where the player enters a match at a specific point and must complete a task, such as scoring a goal from a free kick.

The game is played entirely with touch controls. A directional pad is used to move the players, and three context-sensitive buttons are used for actions. On offence, these are sprint, pass and shoot, while on defence they are slide, switch and sprint tackle. For simple manoeuvres, the player simply taps the buttons, but for more complex actions, it is possible to swipe across the buttons. For example, to perform a finesse shot, the player presses the pass button and then swipes upward. Other actions that can be performed by swiping include chips, crosses and through balls. In addition to the buttons, there are a few other ways to perform actions. A skill move can be performed by double-tapping the screen, while forward runs for players without the ball can be made by swiping across the pitch. It is also possible to play passes by tapping the player who should receive the ball.

The iPad version of the game offers the option of using one or two iPhones as controllers via a Bluetooth connection. For this to work, the player must download a separate app for the iPhone.
