Description
Brink is a multiplayer shooter set in a future where almost the entire Earth is flooded with water. The Ark is one of the last remaining habitable places, but conflict breaks out between security forces and the resistance. Now they find themselves in open conflict and try to gain the upper hand. The game features two single-player campaigns, which are however practically identical to those of multiplayer mode, only with bots and cutscenes.
Each map has multiple areas, all with their own objectives. Of course, the objectives of security and resistance are opposite, so for example in one area the security service must first blow up the gate to the rebels' hideout and the resistance must thwart their plan while pursuing their own objectives. All of these objectives require the use of one of four classes: the soldier is responsible for raw power, medics heal their friends, engineers can use gadgets and agents hack computers. In total there are four basic mission types (escort, destroy, defend and use a device) as well as class-specific objectives. Brink uses an automatic mission system, which means that when a player soldier begins the mission "plant a bomb", all other players receive the order to defend them. Experience points are awarded for completing these missions, which can be used to improve player characters and unlock new abilities for them.
Overall, the focus in this game is on teamwork, and there are many opportunities for classes to help each other. If a particular class is needed, the player can change their class at any time via an in-game terminal. When creating a new character, the game offers many customisation options; however, this has only visual effects. The only exception is body size; a big guy can use big weapons while a light character is faster. The latter also have access to the so-called "SMART" system, which allows them to climb over obstacles or slide across the ground at the push of a button.
