Virtua Tennis 4 [Essentials] - Boxed - PS3

Virtua Tennis 4 is an action-oriented tennis game that focuses on fast-paced matches rather than being a realistic simulation. The heart of the game is the career mode, in which the player creates their own avatar. The goal is simple: reach the top within four seasons. Here, the player has various ways to improve their tennis player, e.g. through training sessions (arcade minigames such as collecting eggs) to boost their stats, by buying new clothing with prize money, or by playing matches. The menu for this mode is laid out like a board game.

Other game modes include single matches, Party mode (playing the aforementioned minigames), or Arcade (winning as many matches as possible in a row). Here, the player can choose from 19 licensed athletes (plus, in the PlayStation 3 version, athletes who had already retired by the time of release). The standard controls for returning the ball consist of selecting the desired shot, e.g. a spin, and the basic direction. When a special meter is filled, the player can unleash a particularly powerful shot.
