Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the sequel to Naughty Dog's 2007 game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The story picks up a few years after the first instalment and follows the hero of its predecessor, Nathan Drake, on his quest around the globe to solve another unsolved historical mystery. This time it revolves around the famous trader/explorer Marco Polo, who returned from a journey in 1292 under mysterious circumstances, having lost 13 ships and more than 500 passengers, with no explanation ever given for what happened to those ships. After learning of an ancient relic and a mysterious Himalayan valley that may be connected to Marco Polo, Drake sets off on an adventure to uncover the secrets of Polo's lost fleet, which he hopes will lead him to one of the greatest undiscovered treasures in history.
Uncharted 2's gameplay is very similar to that of the first game. It consists of cover-based shooting, high-speed chase sequences and death-defying stunts that are quite reminiscent of the Indiana Jones films. Notable changes include the stealth-action segments in the game, in which you must move undetected past hordes of pirates in certain areas who are waiting to kill you. Wall climbing and the cover mechanics have been taken to a new level, allowing Drake to move freely across walls and use more objects for cover. Drake spends most of his time alone, but for large parts of the game he's also accompanied by his fellow treasure hunters Harry Flynn, Elena and Chloe, who are controlled by the computer. During certain sequences, Drake must solve minor puzzles, and for the more complex ones he must study notes in a book. Some of the locations visited include Turkey, Borneo and Nepal.
Brand new to the series are the multiplayer modes. Among Thieves offers both a competitive and a cooperative game mode, allowing you to play together with friends and people from around the world. Competitive game modes include "Deathmatch (Team Deathmatch)", "Plunder (Capture the Flag)", "Elimination" and "Chain Reaction". The cooperative mode is called "Gold Rush", in which you and two other players form a team against waves of enemy AI while trying to grab treasure and bring it back to your base. Each round doesn't just have more enemies – they're also much stronger.
Unlike the original PS3 version, the PS4 version only features single-player mode, not multiplayer. However, the PS4 version does offer a photo mode, which lets you pause the game and make the current screen look like a photograph.
