Description
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the sequel to Naughty Dog's 2007 game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The story picks up a few years after the first instalment and follows the hero of the previous game, Nathan Drake, on his quest around the globe to solve another unresolved historical mystery. This time it's about the famous merchant/explorer Marco Polo, who in 1292 mysteriously returned from a voyage in which he had lost 13 ships and more than 500 passengers, without any explanation ever given for what had happened to those ships. After Drake learns of an ancient relic and a mysterious Himalayan valley that may be connected to Marco Polo, he embarks on an adventure to uncover the secrets of Polo's lost fleet, which he hopes will lead him to one of the greatest undiscovered treasures in history.
Uncharted 2's gameplay is very similar to that of the first game. It consists of cover-based shootouts, fast-paced escape sequences and death-defying stunts that are quite reminiscent of the Indiana Jones films. Notable changes include the game's stealth action segments, in which you must move undetected through certain areas past hordes of pirates waiting to kill you. Wall climbing and cover mechanics have been taken to a new level, allowing Drake to move freely across walls and use more objects for cover. Drake spends most of his time alone, but for large parts of the game he's also joined by his fellow treasure hunters Harry Flynn, Elena and Chloe, who are controlled by the computer. During certain sequences, Drake must solve small puzzles, and for the most complex ones he must study notes in a book. Some of the locations visited include Turkey, Borneo and Nepal.
Completely new to the series are the multiplayer modes. Among Thieves offers both a competitive and a cooperative game mode, allowing you to play the game together with friends and people from around the world. Competitive game modes include "Deathmatch (Team Deathmatch)", "Plunder (Capture the Flag)", "Elimination" and "Chain Reaction". The cooperative mode is called "Gold Rush", in which you must team up with two other players against waves of enemy AI while trying to grab treasure and bring it back to your base. Each round not only brings more enemies, but they're also much stronger.
Unlike the original PS3 version, the PS4 version only includes the single-player mode, not the multiplayer mode. However, the PS4 version offers a photo mode, allowing you to pause the game and make the current screen look like a photo. More
