The Simpsons Skateboarding sees the player guide four members of the Simpsons family, as well as Otto, Chief Wiggum, Professor Frink, Nelson and Krusty the Clown, to ten skater locations around Springfield.
The gameplay is similar to the Tony Hawk series, although the trick system is somewhat different and some moves involve Street Fighter-like quarter-circle D-Pad rolls.
Each level has three types of objectives. In Skillz School mode, there are challenges where certain tricks must be performed. In each level there are five objectives with no time limit and one final objective with a time limit. At the beginning it serves as a kind of tutorial, but later it becomes more difficult.
In Skatefest, the player is assigned five objectives per level. Each level has one objective where you spell a word, one where you collect items, one where you find clocks in a kind of checkpoint race, and two different objectives.
The final mode is a time trick competition mode where the goal is to reach a certain score within a time limit.
In all these modes you earn money that is used to improve the skating skills of the characters. There are also various secret items to find or unlock by completing tasks.
