Description
"Grand Theft Scratchy", which is promptly confiscated by his mother Marge. Suddenly, a manual for a video game lands right in front of him. Miraculously, after reading the manual, the members of the Simpson family discover that each of them has a unique superpower. However, playing with these powers attracts the attention of the aliens Kang and Kodos, who decide to conquer Earth. Now the unlikely superheroes must not only protect the town of Springfield from an alien attack, but also uncover the true reason for their newly acquired powers - and perhaps even for their existence.
The Simpsons Game is a 3D action game with platforming and light puzzle elements, based on the long-running animated series. The game is divided into sixteen episodes, each featuring cutscenes reminiscent of the original Simpsons TV series. Each episode takes place in a different setting; some scenarios are set in Springfield, while others take the player into meta-virtual worlds. Some episodes parody a popular game or genre and bear names such as Medal of Homer or Neverquest. In each stage, two members of the Simpson clan must work together to reach the goal. Players must switch back and forth, using each family member's unique powers to complete the level. Most versions of the game allow two-player co-op play.
The four playable characters each have their own unique abilities, used for combat, solving puzzles, or exploration purposes. Homer can stretch into a rolling blob or inflate himself with helium and float for a while; later he learns a few more transformation abilities. Bart can turn into Bartman and use a grappling hook to reach certain areas, as well as ride air currents upwards with his cape. Lisa's main ability is called "Hand of Buddha", which she mainly uses to move large objects out of the way; she can also play her saxophone to stun or confuse enemies. Marge, finally, can use her megaphone to gather people and control their actions, as well as send little Maggie into crawl spaces that only she can access. Some of these abilities have limited use and must either be recharged or replenished with special items, while others are only available at certain trigger points.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions also include free-roaming gameplay - exclusive to these versions, the player characters can leave the Simpsons' house between missions and roam freely through virtual Springfield. Familiar locations (such as Moe's Tavern, etc.) are present and can also be explored. These locations may contain additional dialogue and events. It is possible to use the bus to quickly travel to various destinations.
