Description
During a battle on one of Dr. Eggman's spaceships, Sonic falls into a dastardly trap! Eggman uses a device to extract the power of the Chaos Emeralds and reverses it to send an explosion down to the planet below, shattering the Earth into pieces and reawakening a creature called Dark Gaia. Since Sonic is no longer of any use to him, Dr. Eggman quickly throws him and the now-lifeless Chaos Emeralds into space, where he crashes down to Earth.
Sonic Unleashed is a combination of two types of gameplay: during the day, Sonic behaves quite normally, with intense, speed-based levels reminiscent of his original games. When night falls, Sonic transforms into a monstrous but powerful “Werehog” with stretchable arms. During the night sections, he has to fight his way through 3D environments, crawling around alongside Dark Gaia's minions.
When players defeat enemies in either type of stage, they gain experience that allows them to improve both Sonic's normal and Werehog abilities, such as speed, strength, health, combat and so on. There are also 3D hub worlds that can be explored during the day and at night, each with different events taking place. Sonic can help townspeople with tasks for items and rewards, or use the rings he has collected in the stages to buy items in shops.
Sonic's buddy Tails also appears in sections where they fly his plane. During these sections, you have to press the corresponding button combinations to shoot down oncoming enemies.
