Sonic Generations - Boxed - PS3

Sonic Generations is a fast-paced action platformer in the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog series. As part of Sega's 20th anniversary celebration for the character, it revisits the story of the entire series with famous stages from all the major titles of the past 20 years. The game is divided into three "eras", each with three stages, each taken from a different game, ranging from the original Sonic the Hedgehog all the way to Sonic Colors, including plenty of ups and downs in between.

Each stage in the game comes in two variants, or "Acts". Act 1 of each stage is played with classic Sonic, whose only abilities are running, the spin jump and the spin dash. Act 1 stages are always side-scrolling platform stages, similar to the classic 2D titles. In Act 2, on the other hand, you play as Modern Sonic, who loses the spin dash but gains a homing attack and the ability to dash forward at extremely high speed. Act 2 stages switch between 2D and 3D platforming as the game progresses. Both Sonics can earn and equip a variety of abilities, such as a faster stop or new kinds of shields.

Each era includes a one-on-one battle against one of Sonic's rivals and culminates in a redesigned version of a classic boss fight. Clearing stages also unlocks a large number of challenge stages centred around specific side characters or gimmicks. Each main stage also contains a number of collectible Red Star Rings to find. Collecting red rings and completing challenges unlocks new and original music, as well as new and original concept art from the series' history.
