Description
The gameplay of each level is divided into two parts: reaching the palace and defeating the Gold Saint. The former is a traditional hack and slash game in which the player fights hordes of enemies. The usual moveset is available to him: normal attacks, dodging, blocking and special attacks. For the latter, the player needs a certain amount of energy in a special energy bar - it decreases with every special attack and increases when the player is hit. Upon reaching the temple, the game switches to a one-on-one fighting game. The basic gameplay stays the same, but once the special energy bar is filled to the maximum, the player can unleash an extremely powerful attack that ends in a typical anime cutscene. However, this also has its downsides: the opponent can block the attack by mastering a quick-time event (pressing a button at exactly the moment it appears on screen). They then launch an equally powerful counter-attack, leading to a sequence in which both players must press buttons - whether the counter-attack succeeds depends on which player is faster. If an opponent’s life energy is empty, a similar sequence begins.
The multiplayer mode is limited to the one-on-one fighting style.
