Description
The game is divided into several worlds, each split into several levels; the game saves automatically after each level. Between worlds, the player must complete a minigame in which they have to surf along beams of light in a psychedelic environment.
Rayman can also come across power-ups that temporarily grant him a special ability: the green power-up lets him fire tornadoes, the blue power-up gives him the ability to use a grappling hook, the yellow power-up lets him fly for a short time, the orange power-up lets him fire precision-guided missiles, and the red power-up gives him a very powerful fist that can smash through doors. These power-ups are always necessary to defeat an enemy or a boss, or to reach the next part of the level.
Rayman can find and free the Teensies, who are locked in cages throughout the level. The freed Teensies show their gratitude by opening up the next part of the map or summoning some bonuses to collect. Every six freed Teensies increases Rayman's health bar.
There are numerous bonuses hidden in the levels; completing levels with a high score unlocks funny animations and minigames.
The Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 can connect to the GameCube via the link port, allowing exclusive minigames to be played on both systems and new levels to be downloaded onto the GBA.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are direct ports of the original game with HD textures and a smooth frame rate. They also add nine short minigames.
