Description
GRID's career mode is called GRID World. Divided into three regions — USA, Europe and Japan — the player must earn money and prestige points to advance to a higher licence category, which then grants access to more and harder racing events. These events are divided into categories such as standard races, drift events, destruction derbies and even the famous 24-hour race at Le Mans.

Of course, not every car is suitable for every event, so there are several different series to choose from. Whilst the player drives a tuned car for drift or racing events in Japan, destruction derbies in the USA await muscle cars, and Europe expects Formula 3000 racers. Each car also drives very differently. Of course, the player must first purchase the right car before entering a tournament. They can choose whether to buy a brand-new car or search eBay Motors for a solid used car that costs less but has already had a few crashes and may not deliver the best performance.

To earn the money to buy a car for an event, the player can complete so-called Driver Offers. These are offers from other racing teams to participate in an event and complete it. However, there are also bonus objectives such as «Finish before Team Top Secret» that bring the player extra money if they successfully complete them.

In addition to money, the player also earns prestige points. These are needed to unlock the next higher licence class in the respective country. Of course, tournaments yield far more points than completing driver offers, but the player can earn a few more points by adjusting the realism settings before the race. The higher the realism, the higher the point gain after successfully completing the event. These settings include things like difficulty level, traction control or the number of flashbacks available to the player during a race. These flashbacks are similar to the Sands of Time from the Prince of Persia series. For example, if the player drifts into gravel, they can activate instant replay, rewind time a bit and then immediately re-enter the race at that point and try to avoid the crash.
