Putty Squad - Boxed - PS3

Putty Squad is a remake of the 1994 SNES game Putty Squad. It has more modern graphics and better sound, but still closely resembles the original game in overall design. Just like in the original game, the player controls the blue character Putty through various levels, where he must free red characters who have been captured by invasion forces. The game is played like a side-scrolling platformer, but at a slower pace and with more focus on exploration and puzzle elements, juggling various abilities to reach the captured characters, even though there are many enemies. To finish a level, all the other blobs must be freed, and then the area can be left through a door.

As an amorphous blob, Putty has a range of abilities. He can stretch in the four main directions to reach objects or climb up platforms. He can also jump and flatten himself completely to dodge enemies. He has various types of attacks that can be upgraded throughout the game, ranging from a simple hit to electric shocks and arrows. Not all available abilities are accessible right away; they are upgraded or unlocked by collecting stars in the levels. There are different types of items that can be absorbed for later use. These are restored in a bar on the right side of the screen, where they can be selected. For example, Putty can fire rockets, throw bombs, activate a shield, or summon a capsule that lets him move freely anywhere in the level for 30 seconds. He can also inflate himself and then use a hot air stream to climb heights, though only for a limited time.

He has a limited number of lives and a certain number of hearts per life. Optionally, players can collect all the yellow stars in a level. Each level has a time limit, and the time can be extended by freeing captives and collecting clock items. At any point, a map mode can be activated, zooming out to show the whole level. Levels are selected on a global map screen and unlocked gradually. The main game mode is called Marathon, and there is a separate Challenge mode for speedruns and other challenges with medals awarded when certain conditions are met. There is also a tutorial. By playing well, players unlock stickers in a sticker book. Once all the stickers on a page are unlocked, an additional level becomes available.

For the PS4 version, pre-ordering the game also included all the levels from the first Putty game.
