Puss in Boots - Boxed - PS3

Puss in Boots is a game based on the computer-animated film of the same name. The film, in turn, is a spin-off of the Shrek series, in which one of the supporting characters takes the lead role: the feline hero Puss in Boots. The story takes place before the events of the film Shrek 2, before Puss in Boots meets Shrek and Donkey. Puss in Boots is a wanted criminal who discovers that the married couple Jack and Jill have found the magic beans he has been searching for his whole life - a reference to the fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. The beans are said to lead to a treasure in a giant's castle, with which Puss wants to repay his debts to his hometown of San Ricardo.

It is an action game played from a third-person perspective, in which the player controls Puss. The game follows the events of the film, and the cat must defeat many bandits. He wields a sabre, controlled by the player's movements using a Wii Remote (Wii), Kinect (Xbox 360) or Move (PS3). Kinect is required for the Xbox 360 version, while Move is supported for the PS3 version. Puss can also block attacks, kick enemies to create space, and attack with claws. The latter two abilities are activated by a meter that fills up as enemies are attacked. Kicking enemies into certain parts of the scenery containing traps is often rewarded with coins. Movement is restricted during combat sequences, with Puss only able to move in a semicircle around enemies. Sometimes Puss can also play a tune on his guitar when the instrument is discovered in the environment. After making the bandits dance to his music, he can then attack them. The 3D environment is explored via a linear path. The cat can move freely, climb ladders, jump, dodge, break objects, hang from ledges, balance on ropes and glide along rails. The cutscenes between missions are in 2D.

In other sequences, Puss must sneak around unnoticed, take part in a dance battle with the masked cat Kitty Softpaws, who is also after the beans, ride through a canyon with a piece of luggage tied to a stagecoach, and glide along a beanstalk. Players can collect nine wanted posters and nine golden eggs throughout the game. At the end of each level, the player is awarded a bronze, silver or gold medal. There are nine missions in total, each set in a different location. In addition to the main adventure, there is a challenge mode for up to two players featuring five minigames based on gameplay mechanics from the adventure mode.
