Description
Portal 2 is the sequel to Portal and offers the same first-person puzzle-platform gameplay. Players continue the story by taking on the role of the young woman Chell, who defeated the artificial intelligence GLaDOS in the first game. Following the events of the first game, she was placed in stasis until she eventually woke up again. The sequel is once again set in the Aperture Science Labs, which have since fallen into disrepair and been overtaken by nature. Much more than in the first game, Chell moves beyond the clean test chambers and explores the dark industrial environment of the lab.

Just like in the first game, the gameplay is based on portals. By firing a start and an end portal onto suitable surfaces, certain insurmountable gaps can be bridged. As in the first game, there are also many test chambers where puzzles must be solved, using cubes, turrets, platforms and special portal tricks to achieve high speed. GLaDOS returns to torment Chell, seeking revenge for her destruction, but there are numerous twists that make her role quite different from the first game. Chell gets help from Wheatley, a small robot that opens doors for her and offers her witty observations about the surroundings.

New gameplay elements in the sequel include light bridges, laser redirection and paint-like gels, developed through the work of the student project Tag: The Power of Paint. The gels provide extra speed, a jump boost, or neutralise effects. They can also be used with objects such as cubes or turrets.

The game's two-player co-op mode is entirely new and offers its own, completely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers and two new playable characters (Atlas and P-Body). The PlayStation 3 version includes some elements of the Steamworks toolset and allows cross-platform play against PC players.
