MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is the sequel to the PlayStation 3 exclusive and launch title MotorStorm.
Players race on a tropical volcanic island in the South Pacific and continue the style of the first game by driving a diverse mix of vehicles, from motorcycles and ATVs to rally cars and trucks, through to big rigs and, as a new addition to the series, monster trucks. These are capable of running over other cars, destroying vegetation and damaging buildings. Some skills have been improved; for example, bikers can now duck or jump over obstacles. Like its predecessor, the tracks are unconventional and contain multiple routes, not all of which are suitable.
Tracks deteriorate through successive races, which affects vehicle behaviour. Smaller vehicles also suffer from vegetation resistance, while larger trucks can plough straight through. In areas with water, the engine cools down, which also affects handling. The game can be played in split-screen mode with up to four players. The game also had online multiplayer modes, but the game's online servers were shut down on 1 October 2012.
