In the Nintendo DS version of "LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures", players can fight their way through 18 levels based on the Indiana Jones film trilogy, with the LEGO figures from the films modified accordingly. The family-friendly approach of the other console versions is also present in this version, with the violence and religious aspects from the films left out. The Nintendo DS version plays similarly to the other console versions, though with a few differences: female characters jump just as high as male characters, hieroglyphs that need to be solved by scholarly characters are missing, mechanisms for repairing machines have also been removed, and buried treasures are now dug up by characters using a spade. The "phobias" aspect of each character has also been removed in the Nintendo DS version, making the gameplay simpler. Occasionally, the player can also find weapons hidden in the levels, which can be used to defeat enemies both at range (with rifles and pistols) and up close (with swords and umbrellas). Barnett College also serves as the hub in the DS version, but it contains rooms for the 3 films (instead of the noticeboard from the other versions), Indiana Jones's office (for buying characters, extras, hints, etc.), the games room (where the player must solve puzzles and complete mini-games to earn gold studs), and the artefact room (where the player can view collected artefacts at any time, with 10 artefacts needed from each level). The post room (where packages are collected to unlock extras) is also absent and is instead replaced by red studs (which still unlock extras via the pause menu). The game includes a number of mini-games that use the Nintendo DS stylus (such as the "LEGO Logo" games, in which players must rotate the studs and fit them into the correct slots while time runs out). Unlike earlier LEGO games for the DS, stud multipliers can now be combined in this game to earn more studs (which must first be won in certain levels through red studs). The DS multi-card play also allows 2 players to cooperate and tackle the levels together.
