In LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, players can explore the Indiana Jones universe with “LEGO-fied” characters.
The game focuses on the three original films: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Each film consists of six separate chapters that retell the stories in a humorous, light-hearted way, with the violence toned down and some of the film's overt religious and political references removed.
All sets and props are likewise made of LEGO and keep their properties, such as the ability to be rebuilt and to fall apart.
In this third-person platform/action game, players take control of various heroes such as Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood or Dr. Marcus Brody, and can also play as villains such as Belloq and Mola Ram.
Each character has different abilities and weapons. While Indiana Jones has a whip he can use to pull items from out of reach, female characters can jump higher, scholars can decipher hieroglyphs, mechanics can repair machines, and excavators can dig up buried treasure. The characters also have different phobias (snakes, rats, spiders) that match their personalities.
The game's main campaign is called Story Mode, in which the player follows the films' stories with two predefined characters and cutscenes. Once a level is complete, however, the player can return to Free Play mode and switch between all unlocked characters, granting access to previously unreachable areas to collect all other artefacts and bonus items.
Destroying or building objects generates LEGO studs, which the player can use to buy additional characters and cheat modes at Barnett College (the main hub). Players can also watch previous cutscenes, examine treasures found earlier, enter codes, or explore the college at their leisure.
As in the LEGO Star Wars series, alongside single-player mode there is also a 2-player co-op mode, allowing two players to play Story Mode together. The second player can join the game at any time by pressing a button on the second controller. More
