Journey into Mystery #123
Comic: Journey into Mystery #123Language: English
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Year: December 1965
Condition: Very Good, VG, 4.0
Journey into Mystery #123 features Thor in an exciting comic adventure from the 1960s. The story is by Stan Lee (script) and Jack Kirby (art). The comic is in used condition.
In the series Journey into Mystery, Marvel's legendary Norse god of thunder Thor made his first appearance in issue 83 (August 1962). From then on he was the hero of the series in every issue up to #125. The series was renamed Thor from issue 126 onwards, instead of restarting at number 1. This was common practice at Marvel at the time for cost-saving reasons. For every new series, publishers had to apply for a new second-class mailing permit with the US Postal Service in order to benefit from the cheap rate for printed matter. If only the title was changed while the numbering continued, the Post Office could be fooled for a while, saving money. This publishing policy still puzzles many collectors today who search for non-existent issue numbers of a series...
