Journey into Mystery #117
Comic: Journey into Mystery #117Language: English
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Year: June 1965
Condition: Very Good Minus, VG-, 3.5
Journey into Mystery #117 with Thor in a classic adventure from the Silver Age of comics! The story is by Stan Lee, the artwork by Jack Kirby. The comic is in a used condition.
In the series Journey into Mystery, Marvel's legendary Norse god of thunder Thor made his first appearance in issue 83 (August 1962). From then on, he was the hero of the series in every issue up to #125. Starting with issue 126, the series was renamed Thor instead of starting again at number 1. At the time, this was common practice at Marvel for cost-saving reasons. For every new series, publishers had to obtain a new sales number/licence from the US Postal Service in order to benefit from the cheaper rate for printed matter. If only the title was changed while the numbering continued, the Postal Service could be fooled for a while, saving money. This publishing policy still puzzles many collectors today who search for non-existent issue numbers of a series...
