Description
Game of Thrones is an episodic adventure game series consisting of six episodes, released between December 2014 and October 2015. The six episodes are:* Game of Thrones: Episode 1 - Iron From Ice
  • Game of Thrones: Episode 2 - The Lost Lords
  • Game of Thrones: Episode 3 - The Sword in the Darkness
  • Game of Thrones: Episode 4 - Sons of Winter
  • Game of Thrones: Episode 5 - A Nest of Vipers
  • Game of Thrones: Episode 6 - The Ice Dragon

It is based both on the original fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire and on the HBO television series adaptation. It takes the appearance and voice of famous characters such as Cersei Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Ramsay Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Margaery Tyrell from the television series. It also runs parallel to the television series, beginning with the Red Wedding at the end of the third season and following events up to the start of the fifth season. It does not expand on the television series, nor does it contradict it, since it focuses mainly on House Forrester. This is a family that does not yet appear in the television series but is briefly mentioned in the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons. As such, it is a spin-off and does not intentionally break with canon, since the book contains no detailed information about House Forrester, but it introduces the Forrester perspective on many prominent characters and events. The game takes place mainly in the Wolfswood region, known for its forests and the carpentries that supply the other houses, and in particular for the fortress of Ironrath. Other prominent locations also feature, such as King's Landing or the Wall, and many others across the continents of Westeros and Essos.

The game begins with the fall of the Starks at the Red Wedding, where Lord Gregor Forrester, a Stark bannerman, and his heir Rodrik are killed by the Freys. Gregor Forrester's squire Gared Tuttle manages to escape and returns to Ironrath. Young Ethan Forrester unexpectedly becomes the new Forrester lord and must deal with the difficult new loyalty to Ramsay Snow, the new Warden of the North, and the encroaching influence of House Whitehill. King's Landing, with Cersei and Tyrion, is introduced through Mira Forrester, Margaery's handmaiden. Each episode is split into several storylines, each controlling different characters. Gared ends up at the Wall, where he meets Jon Snow. Ethan's older, exiled brother Asher is the one who travels to Meereen to seek support against House Whitehill and to meet Daenerys. Mira experiences most of the political intrigue in King's Landing, as she gets drawn into the conflict between Cersei and Margaery. Other prominent characters include Ethan's twin sister Talia and his younger brother Ryon, Lady Forrester and her brother Malcolm Branfield. Information about the characters is stored in a codex of biographies, accessible via the main and pause menus.

The gameplay is typical of earlier Telltale games and focuses on choices and consequences. Most of the gameplay consists of conversations in which the player must choose between different dialogue options. Choices are saved, and important decisions carry over across episodes, leading to a branching of relationships with the various characters. Most dialogue options have a time limit, and if none is chosen, silence or a neutral stance is triggered. A small number of important decisions have no time limit. There are some free-movement sections in which characters can move around freely to have conversations and examine the surroundings. Objects and characters that can be interacted with are highlighted by a white circle showing the available options. There are no puzzles, but in some cases it is possible to pick up stored items on the left side of the screen, which can then be used in later situations. There are some action sequences with Quick Time Events. If these are not carried out correctly or quickly enough, characters can die and part of the game must be replayed. There are also some other minor interactions, mostly based on a drag-and-hold mechanic. After completing an episode, a rewind function is available, allowing you to return to an earlier part of an episode and try new options.

This game entry refers to the complete season version of the game. For PC, for example, individual episodes cannot be purchased, only the complete season. The PlayStation and Xbox One versions offer a full season pass for all six episodes as well as individual purchases. Xbox 360, Android and iOS users must always buy the first episode and then the others individually or as a season pass for episodes two to six. The retail version for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles, labelled as a Season Pass Disc, includes the first five episodes on the disc and the option to download episode six for free, accessible via the in-game episode list, while the same retail version for Xbox 360 and Xbox One only includes the first episode on the disc, with the remaining five needing to be downloaded.
