Description
The 2015 edition of the EA Sports FIFA football series is the second game for the then-new console generation. Unlike FIFA 14, the PC version is now largely identical to the major console versions, with the new Ignite engine being used for the platform for the first time, and the gap to the previous generation console versions has widened.
Apart from a few changes to the user interface, the offline career mode is largely identical. The search for players still depends largely on scouting, but there are some new filters. The 'player search' feature from the previous version does not return. Fatigue and injuries still have a major influence, but it is now possible to design and save several squads and quickly switch between them without having to make every change manually each time. It is still possible to become a manager, and helpful items can be purchased from the FIFA Store. Alongside the familiar offline game modes, there is once again the option to create a custom tournament.
Ultimate Team mode still focuses on collecting players and building a squad, with Ultimate Team Online Seasons as a sub-mode. Players are purchased as card sets. The transfer market has been redesigned to show all available cards for a single player at once, making it quick to compare prices. The ability to add loaned players to your team is also a first, and some are also available via the EA Football World catalogue. The ability to play together with someone else returns in Season mode, but players who prefer not to face a team controlled by two players can disable this in matchmaking. Matchmaking now also immediately searches for a new opponent once a match has ended.
The biggest changes to the gameplay itself focus on tighter through balls. Technical players can show off their dribbling skills, and teammates have improved run strategies to anticipate passes. Players' ball handling has been made looser, adding an element of randomness and more shot types based on the player's skill, position and power. There is also a greater chance that defenders will deflect the ball's trajectory if they are in the line of fire, rather than simply stopping it. Goalkeeper AI has been adjusted in line with the gameplay changes, adding several calculation moments (e.g. when a ball changes trajectory) and last-minute saves.
A final change is a greater focus on atmosphere, so that the presentation feels more like a TV broadcast. This edition also adds pitch deformation, whereby the actions of players leaving the pitch can wear it down and leave marks. A completely new feature is Matchday Live, where all real headlines about the selected club are gathered on a single page. The next real match is displayed and can be played immediately.
