Call of Duty: Black Ops is the seventh instalment of the Call of Duty FPS franchise, set during the Cold War, putting the player in the role of various special forces soldiers carrying out covert, top-secret operations colloquially known as "Black Ops" - the kind that governments deny any knowledge of.
As with previous Call of Duty games, the player switches between different characters operating worldwide, including in Vietnam, Russia, Cuba and Laos. The two main characters are the soldier Alex Mason and CIA agent Jason Hudson, members of the Black Ops group (Studies and Observations Group, SOG), who are tasked with investigating and handling Nova-6, an experimental Soviet chemical weapon.
