Racing a car is one thing, but racing into traffic at high speed, where you're rewarded for the type of impact, is another. That's the idea behind Burnout 2, which offers new modes and higher speeds than the original title. As usual, it's about racing through traffic on real roads while avoiding collisions.
Burnout is a street racing game about speed and crashes. Unlike many other games that focus on driving on closed circuits, here you drive through cities with real traffic and urban infrastructure. The developers built districts and surrounding areas and integrated the race tracks into the streets. As a result, certain parts of the tracks often overlap with parts of other races. Instead of encouraging strategic and safe driving, Burnout also encourages aggressive driving. Driving on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing overtaking manoeuvres, drifting and jumps all contribute to your "Burnout" boost. Speed boosts and jumps help you as you try to get past buses, trucks and anything else in your way. The more aggressively and dangerously you drive, the more boost you get!
Burnout 2 includes a full campaign and a campaign with custom cars. While you can unlock regular cars and tracks, later in the campaign you'll unlock further race tracks such as reverse tracks and one-way sprints. You can unlock over 20 cars, including a Nascar, a 1920s gangster car, a Japanese muscle car and many customised vehicles with individual paint jobs and improved stats.
Alongside the same sense of speed and highly detailed crash animations as before, Point of Impact also offers new game modes. In pursuit mode, you play the police officer chasing the racers, and to win you have to knock them out of the race. Or you can reverse the game with a friend. You can flee from a friend while they try to chase you down. The crash mode, as the name suggests, forces you to glide into crowded intersections to cause as big a pile-up as possible involving as many cars as you can. The bigger the crash, the better. Up to 4 players can compete for the best score.
Training and 2-player racing modes are also included. More
