Description
Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow is set one year after its predecessor, Blue Dragon Plus. The protagonist (whose gender and appearance are set by the player at the start of a new game) awakens from a very long, deep slumber with amnesia. However, this event also has negative effects on the world: everyone except the protagonist loses the ability to summon Shadows! Naturally, the protagonist puts together a group (made up largely of characters known from the previous games) and explores the world to set things right. This instalment also changes the gameplay mechanics, now using an action-based combat system. You control only the main character, performing attacks, blocks and evasive rolls at the press of a button; two AI-controlled party members accompany you. Shadows play an important role: a total of six are available, each with different active and passive abilities. You assign each party member a Shadow, which affects their stats. Only these equipped Shadows (not the party members themselves) gain experience points after won battles and can eventually level up and gain additional abilities. The main character can assign these abilities to the skill bar (not limited by the equipped Shadow) and unleash them during combat. Quests, dungeons and boss battles are started by talking to characters in the hub world, Neo Jibral Castle Town. While many of them are only unlocked after completing other missions, they are independent and transport the group to a different area once started. You and your party members can be equipped with weapons and gear that improve their stats and elemental powers/resistances. The crafting system uses found treasures and old items to create new equipment. Other items, such as healing potions, can only be used outside of combat. Less
