Charizard ex Special Illustration Rare and more “Obsidian Flames” cards revealed!
Pokemon.com has presented more cards from the Obsidian Flames set, including a Ryme full-art card and the Special Illustration Rare of Charizard ex!
The cards have since been removed again. TPCi may have revealed them too early by mistake.
This is one of the rare occasions on which the English TCG reveals cards from a set before Japan; “Ruler of the Obsidian Flames” comes out in Japan next week, yet the advertising campaign is rather restrained. That is probably because Japan has had to promote both Pokémon Card 151 and the ex Start Decks over the past few weeks. We have also only just revealed that “Ruler of the Black Flame” will first be released on a small scale and then see a wider release in early August, which may be affecting the marketing.
As reported earlier, “Ruler of the Obsidian Flames” and Obsidian Flames will introduce the first Tera Pokémon ex with unusual types. These include Charizard ex (Darkness), Tyranitar ex (Lightning) and Eiscue ex (Fire).
These “type-shifted” Tera Pokémon ex will use the same Energy as their usual types, but have a different Weakness matching their shifted type. Charizard ex, for example, will be a Darkness card with Fire attack costs and a Grass Weakness (in the TCG, Darkness types are weak to Grass in order to represent insects).
Here are all the other cards from Obsidian Flames revealed so far:
Obsidian Flames will be released on 11 August. Our set will be a combination of the cards from “Ruler of the Black Flame” in July, the eight ex Starter Decks in July, the ex Special Sets in May and the roughly 30 cards cut from Paldea Evolved.
