What are the Pokémon 30th Celebration Card Sets?
The Card Sets are among the products The Pokémon Company is releasing in Japan to celebrate 30 years of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The “30th CELEBRATION” expansion came out there on 16 September 2026, followed by the nine Card Sets on 16 October 2026.
The idea behind them: in the main games of the Pokémon series, every adventure begins with a starter Pokémon as your first partner. The Card Sets honour the starters of all nine regions that have been the setting of the main games so far. So each generation gets its own set with its three starters.
“MEGA” is part of the official Japanese product name and also appears on the packaging. That is why the sets are called “Pokémon TCG: Mega 30th Celebration Card Set” in our shop, followed by the names of the three starters.
How they differ from the First Partner Illustration Collection
“First Partner” is the official English term for starter Pokémon. Under this name, there is also the First Partner Illustration Collection. The idea is similar, but the contents are put together differently:
- 30th Celebration Card Set: nine sets, one per region. The three promo cards of the starters are fixed in the set, plus 2 booster packs and a card stand.
- First Partner Illustration Collection: three series covering three regions each. Every collection contains one pack with 3 of the 9 promo cards of its series, 2 more booster packs and a sticker sheet.
You can find all three series in our shop as well: Series 1 with Kanto, Sinnoh and Alola, Series 2 with Johto, Unova and Galar, Series 3 with Hoenn, Kalos and Paldea.
What is inside a Card Set?
All nine Card Sets have the same contents. According to the manufacturer, each set contains:
- 3 promo cards (holo): the three starter Pokémon of the region, 1 card each, with an illustration covering the whole card
- 2 “30th CELEBRATION” boosters: 6 random cards each, all of them holo cards according to the manufacturer
- 1 paper card stand: for 3 cards, so you can display the promo cards
The three promo cards are a fixed part of the set. The cards in the boosters are random, so no specific card is guaranteed.
The promo cards 101/M-P to 127/M-P
Together, the nine sets contain 27 promo cards. They carry the promo mark and the numbers 101/M-P to 127/M-P, in the order of the generations: Bulbasaur is 101/M-P, Quaxly is 127/M-P. All 27 cards were illustrated by Saboteri.
Each set only contains the three promo cards of its starter trio. To get all 27 promo cards from the Card Sets, you therefore need all nine sets.
