Woody Woodpecker Racing - Game Boy Color - DE

Woody Woodpecker Racing is a kart racing game featuring characters from the popular animated series with Woody Woodpecker in the lead role. In contrast to the associated 3D platform game, the races are displayed in a 2D top-down view. The gameplay is heavily based on Mario Kart. The player races around a track with the usual speed boosts, jump ramps, water obstacles and cliffs. Driving over star blocks rewards the player with a random selection of power-ups and weapons: jump springs, nitro boosts, rockets, oil slicks, invincibility charges and more. At the start of the game, six of the ten racers (including Woody and Winnie Woodpecker) are unlocked; the rest can be obtained by winning tournaments. A head-to-head racing mode for two players is also supported via link cable. There are two tournament modes: Extreme and Grand Prix, each consisting of the same series of twelve tournaments with three tracks (distributed across sixteen different race tracks). In Extreme, the player must reach a minimum qualifying position to progress, which causes the field of challengers to shrink as the tournament progresses; Grand Prix offers an additional challenge by maintaining the entire field of competitors and rating the racers with points for their placements. Achieving gold trophies in tournaments unlocks points with which you can equip better car parts for future races in all modes. All tracks are also available in two practice modes, Sprint and Time Trial. Sprint is a single race in tournament style against an entire field of AI drivers. Time Trial is a traditional race on an empty track with power-ups disabled; a "ghost car" with the player's best practice time can be activated as a reference.
