Weird Tales is a pulp magazine, a magazine printed on highly wood-pulp-based paper (approx. 17x24 cm) with short stories from the fantastical genre across nearly 100 pages. It contains stories by authors now famous in science fiction, such as Richard Matheson. This magazine also contains black-and-white illustrations by the renowned artist Virgil Finlay. Pulps were the dominant form of entertainment literature in the USA during the first half of the 20th century and disappeared as paperbacks began their rise. Today, pulps are collected as items for enthusiasts, either for their fantastic, colourful cover art or for the authors who wrote for Weird Tales. This July 1953 issue features a science-fiction cover by W. H. Silvey and is in heavily used condition. The spine of the magazine is slightly faded from sunlight.
