Starter Deck: Dawn of the XYZ - Yu-Gi-Oh! - DE

Language: German / 1st Edition

Here come the newest monsters for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG! And they come from the depths of space!

Xyz monsters were created from antimatter and have come to us from the other side of a black hole. Travelling at the speed of light, they're now landing in duels, ready to deal out serious damage!

What is an Xyz monster?

First of all: it's pronounced like ixies. (So you say it as one word, rather than pronouncing the three individual letters.)

One great strength of Xyz monsters is that they're really easy to summon. You can create Xyz monsters out of just about anything: any monster type, any attribute, any theme. You can create monsters that look like giant toys or fearsome dragons, or even monsters made up of numbers. You can use anything for them, even the letters X, Y and Z.

Having travelled through a black hole to enter our universe, Xyz monsters live in reverse time. That's why many things are the other way round for them:

• Xyz monsters have a jet-black card border.
• The lettering on them is bright white.
• They have a Rank instead of a Level (with yellow-black stars instead of yellow-red ones).
• Their stars are on the left instead of the right.

Their stars are on the left instead of the right.

But the most remarkable thing is: when you summon an Xyz monster, the material used stays right there!

How's your Extra Deck looking?

The best thing about Xyz monsters is that they work immediately with the deck you're already using — you don't need to change a thing.

Xyz monsters go into your Extra Deck, just like Fusion and Synchro monsters. But Xyz monsters are much easier to summon than the other two.

If you're not using an Extra Deck yet, now is a great moment to start. You don't even need to change your Main Deck for that. Just put a few Xyz monsters in your Extra Deck zone, and you're ready to go.

Your Extra Deck can hold between 0 and 15 cards. Even if you're not playing with an Extra Deck yet, you can simply put your Xyz monsters in the Extra Deck zone next time you duel. That way, they're ready when you need them.

How to perform an Xyz Summon

If you want to perform an Xyz Summon, you need monsters of the same Level on the field. You also need an Xyz monster in your Extra Deck that matches that Level. (For example: if you want to use 2 Level 4 monsters as Xyz Material, you need an Xyz monster that lists "2 Level 4 monsters" as material.)

When you're ready for the Xyz Summon, simply take the Xyz Material monsters and stack them on top of each other on the field. Then take the matching Xyz monster you want to summon from the Extra Deck and summon it. Then place the stack of Xyz Material underneath this monster

Yes, you read that right: the Xyz Material monsters lie UNDER the Xyz monster. Afterwards, you can use them to pay costs for the Xyz monster's effects or to activate special Spell and Trap cards that only work for Xyz monsters.

When you use Xyz Material to pay costs or activate an Xyz monster's abilities, the card tells you to "detach" the Xyz Material. That means you take a monster from the Xyz Material lying under the Xyz monster and send it to the Graveyard.
