Perry Our Man in Space #61
Comic: Perry #61Language: German
Publisher: Moewig Comics
Year: 1970
Condition: 2 (Two) Good
Perry #61 is a classic science fiction comic from Moewig Verlag, based on the successful pulp novel series Perry Rhodan. The cover and the image on the back are by longtime Perry Rhodan cover artist Johnny Bruck. The comic is in good used condition, although the UFO special section is missing. However, the page numbering is not affected by this. No pages are missing.
The comic series Perry was published by Moewig Verlag between 1968 and 1975, running for a total of 129 issues. This science fiction comic was the publisher's comic adaptation and, after Perry Rhodan im Bild (1967-1968), the second attempt to bring the famous pulp novel source material into the comic medium. The series had the casual and reassuring subtitle Our Man in Space and soon developed into a garish and colourful pop-art comic that appealed more to young adults than to children. The artistic design was handled by the Italian graphic studio Giolitti, and most of the drawings were simple copies from a wide variety of American comic books of that era. Panels from Marvel Comics in particular were shamelessly copied, and above all it was John Buscema whose drawings repeatedly served as a template. Nevertheless, the series Perry has its own very special charm, especially because it is a typical phenomenon of its time and, as such, still comes across as lovingly nostalgic today. Most of the covers were designed by Moewig's in-house artist Johnny Bruck (1921-1995), who also shaped the visual style of the source material - the pulp novel series Perry Rhodan. For sales-strategic reasons, it was apparently important to the publisher to maintain at least a visual unity on the magazine racks.
