Nintendo - Amiibo - Super Smash Bros - Palutena Figure

Amiibo is Nintendo's toy platform. It consists of a protocol for wireless communication and storage for connecting toys to the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch video game consoles. The platform launched in November 2014 in the form of system software updates and a range of Amiibo-compatible figures. These figures resemble those of the Skylanders and Disney Infinity toys-to-life series in shape and functionality. The Amiibo platform was announced with the potential to accommodate any form of toy, with general plans in particular for future card games. These toys use Near Field Communication (NFC) to interact with supported video game software. This potentially allows data to be transferred to and from games and across multiple platforms.

Amiibo functionality can be used directly with the Nintendo Switch, Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS consoles thanks to built-in NFC readers. In addition, the rest of the 3DS hardware can use an official NFC adapter. By September 2016, Nintendo reported 39 million Amiibo toys sold and more than 30 million Amiibo cards.
