Master of Kung Fu #48
Comic: Master of Kung Fu #48Language: English
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Year: January 1977
Condition: Fine/Very Fine, FN/VF, 7.0
Master of Kung Fu #48 from the golden age of Kung Fu, when interest in Asian martial arts truly exploded in the 1970s. This was clearly Marvel's answer to "Everybody was Kung Fu fighting"! An exciting and action-packed story by Doug Moench (writer), fantastically and masterfully brought to life by Paul Gulacy (artist). The Moench/Gulacy team was perfect for this kind of comic and remains unmatched to this day. Highly relevant in light of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as a film adaptation was announced for 2020. The comic book is in good condition.
The comic series Master of Kung Fu, featuring the protagonist Shang-Chi, followed the typical pattern of tapping into current trends and joining in on a boom. Marvel capitalised on the Kung Fu fever of the 1970s, sparked mainly by the legendary Bruce Lee, who was also responsible for the concept of the television series Kung Fu (1973) starring David Carradine. All kinds of comics sprang up at the time, wanting a piece of the Kung Fu pie. Marvel later extended the concept to other series such as Iron Fist and Sons of the Tiger. Master of Kung Fu ran until 1983 and ended with issue 125.
