FIFA International Soccer - SNES - DE

The game that launched the world football association-licensed best-selling series used a dimetric (colloquially "isometric") viewing angle, which was unusual for football games at the time, but was quickly imitated by several other titles. The TV presentation, one of the unique selling points of the early EA Sports titles, with hosts introducing the matches, was another point that set the game apart from a market dominated by Sensible Soccer and Kick Off games. The game is based on international teams (with fictional player names) whose abilities in each area are rated with 10 points to give the player an overall impression of how good they are. The available options correspond to the standard: fouls and offside can be switched on and off, game duration can be adjusted, and it can be set whether the timer runs continuously or only when the ball is in play. Gameplay favours fast runs, short passes and powerful shots from outside the penalty area, and player figures are controlled by moving a box into the target area for the ball and then passing, lobbing or shooting directly. On the tactical side, formations can be selected, with 5 different strategies also available (although not all of these combinations make sense), as well as team marking—the areas that defenders, midfielders and forwards cover.
